ABO Legislative Policy Alert – Immediate Action

Dear ABO members –

The United States Senate is currently debating S. 1813, the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century bill (MAP-21), otherwise known as the highway bill.  There are two tax amendments to this bill that may be voted on as early as this afternoon – one offered by Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and one offered by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY).  We are fortunate that both of these energy tax amendments include the algae tax parity language supported by ABO.

The tax parity language would allow producers of algal biofuel to receive the $1.01 per gallon tax credit that has been available to cellulosic biofuel producers. Algal biofuels are currently not eligible for this tax credit.

Please contact your U.S. Senator’s office before 5:00 pm ET today to ask them to support either the Stabenow or the McConnell energy tax extenders amendment to the highway bill.  Either of these amendments will be a huge step toward accomplishing ABO’s #1 policy objective:  tax parity for algae-based fuel.
